Audiobook Proofing: Every Word Checked Against Your Manuscript
Our proofers listen to your full audiobook with the manuscript open and catch the mistakes editors and narrators miss — skipped lines, repeated words, mispronunciations and stray noises.

What we catch
What Audiobook Proofing Covers
Proofing (also called proof listening or QC) is a separate, focused pass after editing. It is the step most self-published audiobooks skip — and the one listeners notice in reviews.
- Skipped words and missing lines
- Repeated words and phrases
- Misreads and wrong words
- Mispronounced names and terms
- Inconsistent character voices
- Edits that sound clipped
- Leftover clicks, bumps and noises
- Missing chapter heads or credits
How it works
Our Audiobook Proofing Process
1. Listen with the script
A proofer who did not edit your book listens at normal speed with your final manuscript open.
2. Log every issue
Each issue is logged with chapter, timestamp, the exact text and what went wrong.
3. Fix or flag pickups
We fix what editing can fix. Lines that need re-recording go on a clear pickup list for the narrator.
4. Final check
Once pickups are dropped in, we re-check the fixed sections before mastering.

The pickup list
A Clear Pickup List for Your Narrator
When a line needs to be re-recorded, you get a simple spreadsheet: chapter, timestamp, the correct text, and a note on what to change. Narrators can record all pickups in one short session, and we drop them in seamlessly.

FAQ
Audiobook Proofing FAQs
What is audiobook proofing?
Audiobook proofing is a full listen of the edited audiobook while following the manuscript, to catch narration errors, editing mistakes and noises before the book is mastered and published.
Why not let the editor proof the audiobook?
Editors become used to the recording and miss errors. A separate proofer hears the book fresh, the way a listener will.
What do you need from me for proofing?
The final version of your manuscript (Word, PDF or ebook file) and a list of names or terms with their correct pronunciation, if any.
Who records the pickups?
You or your narrator record them from our pickup list. We then edit them in and re-check those sections.
